Should You Buy Tents Or Rent Them?
Buy tents, and you will have them there to use whenever you need them. You will also save money over time if you are going to be using them regularly. Although you will have the job of cleaning, storing and repairing the tents, you will not need to keep paying rental fees every time you want to use them. On top of this, you will get to know how to best erect the tent, so that the job will take less time in the future. You will also know the space taken up by the tent when you need to travel, saving the potential embarrassment of being short of room.
There is, of course, another side of the coin. If you rent your tent, you will not have the job of storing it when it is not in use. You will not need to perform any maintenance work other than making sure that the tent is in the right condition to return after use. There is also a lot less risk involved in renting. If you find that one model does not really suit your needs, you can simply choose another one next time you need a tent.
If you have never bought a tent before, renting is probably the most sensible option you can take. It will allow you to try out several different models over time. You can use the experience you gain to then make a superior buying choice whenever you are ready. Yes, you will spend a bit more money overall, but you will avoid the possibility of making a disastrous purchasing mistake. Of course, if you get lucky and find the perfect tent for you early on you can just go out and buy one straight away.
Renting is also clearly the best option if you are only going to need the tent a handful of times. If you are running a special event, it will definitely not be worth your while to buy tents for the occasion, and there are serious disadvantages in doing so. Firstly, you will need to erect the tent yourself, and if you have no experience of this you may find it is not as easy as you think. The worst scenario is where you make a mistake erecting the tent and do not notice it until after the event has started.
You should only buy tents if you are going to put them to regular use. If you do have an ongoing need for a tent, take advantage of the Internet to have a look at as many options as possible. Retailers all have different stock, and different pricing policies as well. Any good retailer will have a website with full pictures, allowing you to see exactly what is on offer before you buy. Look also for retailers who will allow you to return the product, as this gives you added protection when you buy tents.
